After I finish this fifth chapter of my fantasy piece, I’m gonna put it on the backburner. I want to be good at fantasy, but introducing a world and its rules well just… isn’t really in my wheelhouse. I want to write some realistic fiction REALLY bad, which has never happened before. But y’all… that shit is HARD to come up with. With fantasy books conflicts are easy, you just give your guys a quest and have ’em go at it. But it’s so hard to create something based in our world that’s interesting and complex enough to make a book.
I have some ideas for a few vague concepts, but I have nothing close to a plot yet. I had an idea for a scene based on a drive home from my hair appointment, which I may try out and post in a few days. But I want to make a full thing that people want to read and that I can write well. I want to like… do some literary shit with it? I don’t know. I think I’ve been reading too much old Russian Lit and it’s intimidating me. But yeah, I want something cool and original but I don’t have anything right now.
Writing fantasy is just not for me right now. Maybe some magical realism, but I’d want it EXTREMELY grounded in reality if I go in that direction. This would absolutely break my fifth-grade fantasy-loving heart, but I need to step back and, at the very least, let my fantasy stuff breathe for a second. Just wanna write about a guy bein’ a dude, ya know? I feel like I would be more invested in and more happy with a piece of realistic fiction. I’m too tired to come up with any ideas at the moment tho. I’ll keep you guys updated! In the meantime I’ll be working on a reading update about Russian lit at the turn of the 19th century (riveting, i know) and an Infinite Noise review when I finish that one. Thanks for reading!
